A mere broken leg won’t slow us down

I broke my ankle a couple of weeks ago in a fall from my horse (don’t worry! My horse is fine.) I’m on crutches until at least Election Day. So much for my plans to knock on every door in Tracy, to get out the vote and flip CA-10!

But something amazing happened. My friend Jack had already offered to drive our SUSF minivan, the Beast of the Resistance, in my place. Last Saturday, nearly 200 people showed up to turn Tracy blue. Signups for this Saturday’s canvass are already off the charts.

I’ve taken a tumble, but hundreds of people have stepped up to take my place. This is how we resist Trump’s agenda. We are stronger together.

And besides, there’s nothing wrong with my typing fingers, so now I’m text-banking for Red2Blue and making an impact all over the country!

Can you volunteer this week?

Yesterday, I talked to dozens of people who are determined to vote against the Trump agenda in November. I met people of all ethnicities and ages, immigrants and those born and raised in the US, people with multi-generational homes and those living alone, and they all had one thing in common: they want to take back our country.

I was canvassing in Tracy, a district currently held by Republican Jeff Denham, who has voted with Trump 97% of the time. Through the efforts of the almost 200 people who showed up yesterday to knock on doors, this district could be represented by Democrat Josh Harder next year. We have just three weeks to get it done.

Latest attack on immigrant families

I know how much you care about the way immigrants are being punished by the Trump administration. This week, Republicans proposed a new regulation that would block immigrant families from having a permanent, secure future in the United States. Immigrants who legally access basic health supports, safe housing, and healthy food programs could be denied admission to the country or refused a green card. The proposed rule also makes clear that earning low wages, having children, or dealing with a medical condition could be held against immigrants seeking a permanent future in the United States.

This is the latest inhumane attack on the health and wellbeing of families across the country. But together, we can stop it.

Make them pay

Yesterday, we watched in outrage as Republicans sold out women and Democracy and voted to seat Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court. A lot of us felt helpless this week watching these events play out, and realizing what they will mean for the future of this country.

But we aren’t helpless. The fight isn’t over. There will be no justice in America until we vote out Donald Trump and end Republican control of Congress. Every senator who voted for Kavanaugh should lose their job, and we are going to make that happen.

Election day is one month away. Stand Up San Francisco is leading canvasses in Tracy every Saturday from now until then, to take a House seat away from Republican Jeff Denham. Join us in our minivan, which Rachel calls “The Beast of the Resistance”, for a fun and vitally important day out.

A predator and a liar

SUBJECT LINE: A predator and a liar

Hi ,

This has been an excruciating week for survivors of sexual assault, and for women in general. We remember what the Senate put Anita Hill through, and it’s infuriating to see Dr. Blasey Ford have to suffer the same misery. This week was a stark reminder that the men who are running our country see women as objects to be raped and discarded.

Our outrage has made an impact: senators agreed to move forward with an FBI investigation before the confirmation vote. But make no mistake: the White House has placed significant limits on that investigation, and it’s clear that the GOP still expects to confirm Brett Kavanaugh before midterms.

We could still see to it that Kavanaugh is impeached. But that will only happen if we take back Congress.
