Congress must act against war in Iran

Are we stumbling into war with Iran? The past few weeks have seen National Security Advisor John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo escalate their rhetoric. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Under George W. Bush, Bolton lobbied hard for the invasion of Iraq. He is no stranger to provoking disastrous, costly and tragic confrontations in the region.

At the same time, the president is claiming he wants to cool tensions. It’s unconvincing, since he is the one responsible for pulling out of the 2015 deal that would have curbed Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Despite his claims, tensions in the region are mounting. Though no sensible person would want it, we face the prospect of yet another endless war in the Middle East.
