Save the Clean Power Plan (and some good news)

I know you’re outraged about the Trump administration’s exploitation of our environment, and worried about Trump’s direct impacts on climate change. Here’s your chance to do something about it.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has extended the deadline for comments on the proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan, and has set dates for a “listening session” in San Francisco. They need to hear from you!

The Clean Power Plan reduces climate changing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from existing coal- and gas-fired electric power plants. CO2 is the most prevalent of the greenhouse gases that are the primary cause of climate change, threatening the lives, health, and well-being of Americans and people worldwide. Trump wants to repeal the Clean Power Plan and bring us back to pollution levels not seen since the 1970s. We have the chance to stop him, but we must act now.

TWO THINGS YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW

Submit a public comment against repealing the Clean Power Plan. Get talking points here.

RSVP for the listening session, Wednesday, February 28, at SF Main Library. GET DETAILS AND SIGN UP

EXTRA CREDIT: Submit a public comment to the Department of the Interior against offshore oil drilling.

WE SCORED A WIN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Here’s some good news, and we made it happen: a delegation from Stand Up SF in January urged Senator Kamala Harris, at the time uncommitted, to speak out against the appalling nomination of Kathleen Hartnett-White to head the Council on Environmental Quality. Hartnett-White made clear in her confirmation hearings that she denies the existence of man-made climate change and rejects basic science.

On February 1, Senator Harris said, “Kathleen Hartnett White was unqualified last time she was nominated to be one of the top White House environmental advisers, and she’s still unqualified now.”

Two days later, under unsustainable political pressure, the nomination has been withdrawn.

You can make more good news! Sign up for one of our actions below and hold our leaders accountable. Make real change happen!
